General, Organic, and Biological Chemistry relates the fundamental concepts of chemistry to the world around us and illustrates how chemistry explains many aspects of everyday life. This textbook is written for students who have an interest in nursing, nutrition, environmental science, food science, and a wide variety of other health-related professions. The content of this book is designed for an introductory chemistry course with no chemistry prerequisite, and is suitable for either a two-semester sequence or a one-semester course.
New:
• Sample Problems are followed with one or more Practice Problems to allow students to apply what they have just learned. Concept Check problems have replaced many in-chapter Problems to give students an immediate check on the topic that has just been presented. The answers to all Concept Check problems, all Practice Problems, and odd-numbered end-of-chapter Problems are given at the end of each chapter.
• Each chapter contains a Self-Test, which consists of short-answer questions that test an understanding of definitions, equations, and other material covered in the chapter. The eBook contains an additional Multiple-Choice Self-Test on chapter material. Answers to all Self-Test problems are provided at the end of each chapter.
• Over 70 new problems.
• In an effort to present the material in this text to the widest range of students, the content and artwork has been reviewed and updated to improve accessibility and ensure that it reflects the diverse student audience for whom it is written. The color contrast in many figures has been adjusted for better visibility, and it is hoped that the photos in the text better represent a diverse audience.
• Chemical values and data between the print text, eBook, and ALEKS are now parallel with one another. Numerous tables, figures, and problems throughout the text have been updated to mirror the data in ALEKS, thereby presenting unified chemical data.
