Reorganized Chapters and Updated Content. The authors decided to undertake a substantial reorganization of the chapters and content for the Canadian 2026 Release. The main objective was to make the text more useful, for both instructors and our students, while facilitating an easy transition for instructors who had used previous editions in their classrooms. Several chapters were broken up and reordered, some new chapters were introduced while others were "retired." The authors strove to improve the readability of the text, making it more student friendly and accessible to a broader audience. Along the way, content has been updated to incorporate new research findings and to maintain currency with the Canadian labour market policy and issues.

Canadian Perspective. With a uniquely Canadian perspective, Benjamin et al discusses topics that reflect the Canadian landscape including coverage of unions and unemployment. Emphasis is on Canadian data, examples, institutions, problems, and policies. Canadian issues are discussed within the context of a more general theoretical and empirical framework, applicable to the labour problems of most developed countries.
Theory, Evidence, and Policy. Benjamin et al provides a mixture of theory and practice with an emphasis on Canadian policy issues. It also provides students with the tools they need for critical thinking about labour market problems, worked examples, and extensive problem material.
Distinguished Authorship. Labour Market Economics is authored by leading researchers in Canada in the area of labour economics and industrial organization.
Worked Examples. The numerical worked examples illustrate more concretely the theoretical and conceptual issues introduced in the book. Working through the numerical details of an explicit example helps bridge the gap between the material in the text and the problems at the end of each chapter, which often involve numerical computations.
Extensive Problem Material. Benjamin et al includes Review Questions, which are slightly easier and designed to direct students to specific parts of the chapter in order to highlight important concepts or issues, and Problems, which are more analytical and designed to challenge students to apply lessons from the chapter to real-world situations.
