Cozby is known for its clear writing style and readability. The new edition builds on that tradition by including more descriptive chapter titles and edits throughout to provide additional clarity and greater inclusivity. Also new to the fourth Canadian edition are two new chapters focused on sampling and qualitative methods, as well as expanded content on the use of statistical software.

New Chapter: Sampling. The fourth Canadian edition includes a new chapter on sampling (Chapter 4). Discussion of sampling previously appeared across different chapters, and this new chapter now consolidates this material (Chapter 4: Who Should We Collect Information From?). Some of this information was moved from the former chapter on inferential statistics (Chapter 13 in the third Canadian edition, now Appendix B), and some content was moved from the former Chapter 7 (Survey Research: Asking People About Themselves).
New Chapter: Qualitative Methods. A new chapter has been added that is dedicated to qualitative methods (Chapter 7). In recent years, there has been a growing appreciation for the advantages of both qualitative data and qualitative approaches to analysis. This new chapter provides a necessary introduction to both, highlighting when and how qualitative approaches can provide unique forms of insight not possible with quantitative methods. Combining quantitative and qualitative approaches, in the form of mixed-methods research, is also discussed.
Chapter Reorganization. In addition to two new chapters, the chapter on inferential statistics (formally Chapter 13) has been moved to Appendix B, with some of its content now appearing in Chapters 4 and 14.
Expanded Content on Statistical Software. New to this edition is greatly expanded content on statistical software, in particular the statistical programming language R. Understanding how to organize, evaluate, and analyze data has become increasingly important and R has emerged as one of the most popular methods for doing so. This includes a series of nine boxes on how to learn R throughout the resource (in Chapters 2, 4, 6, 9-13, and 15). The content in these boxes gently guide readers, who are assumed to have zero experience with coding or R, to a point of comfort with loading in data and doing rudimentary statistics with the software.
Updated Chapter Titles. The chapter titles in the fourth Canadian edition have been updated and are now more descriptive and employ lay language. Reading the chapter titles from top to bottom provides an easy way to see the overall picture of the contents.
Enhanced Readability. Sentence-level edits throughout have increased the clarity of the writing, with an emphasis on brevity and simple language. In addition, language and examples have been adjusted in the pursuit of greater inclusivity.
Readability. Cozby maintains its clear and concise writing style. Key glossary definitions appear in the margins to help students grasp concepts easily.
