Human Resource Management, Canadian 2026 Release, focuses on key people issues and how HR is central to an organization’s overall strategy and performance. Knowledge, tools, and resources are provided to guide the exploration of HRM from the perspective of future and current employees, managers, entrepreneurs, executives, directors, community leaders, and HR professionals.

Steen et al engages learners using real-world examples; focuses on important HR concepts and contextual issues, for example, economic conditions; technology and innovation; social changes; legal landscape; globalization; and applies knowledge and insights to real and relatable chapter features and cases.

Integration of AI and Technology in HR Practices. The Canadian 2026 Release of Steen features expanded discussion on AI-enabled technologies, automation, generative AI applications, and their impact on employee experience, recruitment, training, performance management, and organizational outcomes.

Diversity, Inclusion, and Indigenous Representation. An enhanced focus to indigenous achievements, wellness benefits and workforce integration has been applied to the Canadian 2026 Release. Steen includes updates on diversity initiatives, neurodiverse talent, gender affirmation benefits and culturally relevant practices.

Evolving Workforce Strategies and Organizational Priorities. The Canadian 2026 Release provides an updated emphasis on skills-based hiring, upskilling/reskilling, remote work design, psychological health, and career development. Students are exposed to further exploration of global operations, unionization trends, geopolitical risks, and ethical considerations in AI usage.

People & Purpose: Indigenous Voices and HR. Available in Steen Connect, a video series hosted by Dr. Shelley Price, features interviews with Indigenous entrepreneurs and business leaders sharing their perspectives on human resources, business and reconciliation. All 6 videos include both multiple choice and short-answer questions for assigning within Connect and a full Instructor’s Manual to best support integration in Canadian HRM courses.

New Cases. The new Managing Talent Case Studies and new Exploring HRM in Practice Case Studies have been introduced in each chapter to apply the concepts by looking at organizations and how their practices illustrate chapter content. These case studies provide external examples to bring into the classroom, along with questions for assignment or discussion.

AI Reader. Encourage discovery and boost understanding with AI Reader. Designed to facilitate active reading, AI Reader within McGraw Hill Connect provides students with AI tools to enhance their comprehension, retention, and critical thinking. Evergreen™. Content and technology are ever-changing, and it is important that you can keep your course up to date with the latest content and assessments. That’s why we want to deliver the most current and relevant content for your course, hassle-free. McGraw Hill uses an Evergreen delivery model, which is a product delivery model and experience that provides customers with the most relevant and updated content, tools, and accessibility. Practical Real-World Application. Steen focuses on what students are bound to encounter in their business careers. Issues such as strategy are streamlined to give a greater focus on how human resources are used in the everyday work environment. Best practices and “HR Oops” – two sides of what to do/what not to do scenario; the hands-on “HR How To”; and the real-world “Thinking Ethically” dilemmas are just a few examples of what supports this practical approach.

Engaging, Focused and Applied. Steen provides a particularly elevated and timely coverage of current HR issues, is easy to read, and provides the content, tools, and resources to illuminate the relevance of HR to future and current employees, managers, entrepreneurs, executives, and HR professionals.

Active Learning and Critical Thinking. Steen supports critical thinking, active learning and outcomes-based teaching by offering a wide range of learning materials that will suit all types of course formats and learning styles: end of chapter critical-thinking exercises and cases, interactive video cases, and interesting individual and group work activities (online Experiencing HR feature and Application Based Activities).

HR Analytics and Decision Making. Steen continues to provide students with an opportunity to consider how data can be transformed into insights to enhance employee experience and business performance.

Indigenizing the Workplace Running Case. Prepared by Wanda Rockthunder, an instructor at SIIT and from the Muskowekwan First Nation, and with contributions from Shelley Price, an associate professor at Acadia University and an Inuk woman of mixed ancestry born in NunatuKavut, Labrador, is once again featured in Steen. The case follows the fictional company Human Initiatives as it engages with the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s Calls to Action and begins the process of Indigenizing its workplace.
