The Eighth Canadian Edition continues to offer a comprehensive and flexible amount of content appropriate for a wide variety of courses and learners, including undergraduate, graduate, and executive education. The significance of supply chain and operations management has never been more apparent than during the COVID-19 crisis and its aftermath. The new edition offers an extensive revision with the addition of timely new topics and consistent updates throughout the many examples, figures, and pedagogical features in each chapter. To reflect Stevenson's flexible approach and comprehensive treatment of supply chain topics, the textbook's title has also been updated in the Eighth Canadian Edition.
Available with McGraw Hill Connect, our best-in-class digital teaching and learning solution, Stevenson takes learning to the next level by immersing students in operations and supply chain management through adaptive reading and learning modules, as well as numerous opportunities for real-world application with included simulations.
Content Updates. The Eighth Canadian edition received an extensive revision with each chapter reflecting the latest developments relating to the concepts. This includes updated figures, statistics and examples. A number of chapters introduced new sections to highlight brand new topics such as Six Sigma, DRP, risk and resiliency in the supply chain and many more.
Chapter Openers, Mini-Cases and OM in Action Boxes. Each chapter has been updated with new and revised case study and boxed feature readings focusing on companies that Canadian students will find recognizable such as Ikea, A&W, and Zara.
Algorithmic Application-Based Activities (ABAs). These highly interactive, automatically graded mini-simulations emphasize both Quantitative and Qualitative aspects of Operations and Supply Chain Management. The recently expanded range of activities now includes a mix of Static and Algorithmic formats, offering students a comprehensive experiential learning experience. From learning fundamental principles like capacity planning to addressing complex field challenges, the ABAs aim to cultivate critical thinking and problem-solving skills, preparing students for success in the dynamic realm of Operations & Supply Chain Management.
Integrated Excel. The power of Microsoft Excel meets the power of Connect in our Integrated Excel assignments. In this assignment type, Excel opens seamlessly inside Connect, with no need for uploading or downloading any additional files or software. Instructors choose their preferred auto-graded solution, with the option for either grading for formula accuracy or for the solution value.
Reflecting the Diverse World around Us. McGraw Hill believes in unlocking the potential of every learner at every stage of life. To accomplish that, McGraw Hill is dedicated to creating products that reflect, and are accessible to, all the diverse, global customers we serve. This includes, but is not limited to, the following:

- Maintaining a robust photo library of diverse images that reflect our student populations.
- Including more diverse voices in the development and review of our content.
- Strengthening art guidelines to improve accessibility by ensuring meaningful text and images are distinguishable and perceivable by users with limited colour vision and moderately low vision.
Balanced Content. The text strives to achieve a careful balance in the presentation of operations management. Care has been taken to balance definitions and concepts with quantitative, hands-on problems; to balance theoretical material with real-life applications; and to balance classical topics in operations management with new developments that particularly interest students.
Easy to Read. The writing style is clear, concise, and student friendly, while maintaining the technical rigor necessary for the subject matter. From step-by-step problem solving to theoretical exposition, to in-depth Mini-Cases and readings, Stevenson is designed to promote student understanding of the role of operations management in successful organizations-which, in turn, promotes student success in class.
Problem-Solving Approach. To further students' hands-on experience of OM, Stevenson contains examples with solutions throughout. At the end of most chapters is a group of solved problems to illustrate concepts and techniques. Some of the end-of-chapter problems have answers at the end of the book. Additionally, many problems are assignable with auto-grading in Connect. Advanced algorithms allow students to practice problems multiple times to ensure full comprehension of each problem.
Pedagogical Learning Elements. Chapter features such as opening cases, OM in Action boxes and Taking Stock and Critical Thinking exercises reinforce practical relevance and encourage analytical thinking. The wealth of examples and end-of-chapter material is presented in a manner that supports scaffolding learning around different levels of rigour, thereby building student confidence in problem-solving application.
Career Readiness with Excel. Instructors looking to incorporate more Excel applications in teaching OM concepts can do so with ease by taking advantage of Excel Templates available for select exhibits and problems, as identified by Excel icons. New to this edition, Integrated Excel problems can be assigned in McGraw Hill Connect with auto-grading functionality. Additionally, Excel Prep tutorials are available to help students with basic functions to reach the same level of preparedness early in the course.
OM in the News Blog. This blog and newsletter available in Connect that was created for operations management faculty by operations management faculty, to supplement any course with up to the minute and relevant OM course material that's followed by critical thinking questions for class discussion! All articles and videos are mapped by chapter to McGraw-Hill Operations Management titles.
Experiential Learning with Simulations. Included in Connect, Practice Operations is a 3D, interactive, game-based simulation for students to manage operations of a clothing manufacturing and distribution company that provides real-world decision making and operations management skills. The results? Students gain the closest experience to real life operations through an engaging course that is more fun, competitive, and interactive. Instructors also have the option of introducing simulations on a smaller scale with the briefer Application-Based Activities, each of focusing on one main concept.
