Human Resource Management, Canadian 2026 Release, focuses on key people issues and how HR is central to an organization’s overall strategy and performance. Knowledge, tools, and resources are provided to guide the exploration of HRM from the perspective of future and current employees, managers, entrepreneurs, executives, directors, community leaders, and HR professionals.
Steen et al engages learners using real-world examples; focuses on important HR concepts and contextual issues, for example, economic conditions; technology and innovation; social changes; legal landscape; globalization; and applies knowledge and insights to real and relatable chapter features and cases.
Integration of AI and Technology in HR Practices. The Canadian 2026 Release of Steen features expanded discussion on AI-enabled technologies, automation, generative AI applications, and their impact on employee experience, recruitment, training, performance management, and organizational outcomes.
Diversity, Inclusion, and Indigenous Representation. An enhanced focus to indigenous achievements, wellness benefits and workforce integration has been applied to the Canadian 2026 Release. Steen includes updates on diversity initiatives, neurodiverse talent, gender affirmation benefits and culturally relevant practices.
Evolving Workforce Strategies and Organizational Priorities. People & Purpose: Indigenous Voices and HR. Available in Steen Connect, a video series hosted by Dr. Shelley Price, features interviews with Indigenous entrepreneurs and business leaders sharing their perspectives on human resources, business and reconciliation. All 6 videos include both multiple choice and short-answer questions for assigning within Connect and a full Instructor’s Manual to best support integration in Canadian HRM courses.
New Cases. The new Managing Talent Case Studies and new Exploring HRM in Practice Case Studies have been introduced in each chapter to apply the concepts by looking at organizations and how their practices illustrate chapter content. These case studies provide external examples to bring into the classroom, along with questions for assignment or discussion.
AI Reader. Encourage discovery and boost understanding with AI Reader. Designed to facilitate active reading, AI Reader within McGraw Hill Connect provides students with AI tools to enhance their comprehension, retention, and critical thinking. Students can use AI Reader within the Connect eBook and/or SmartBook to highlight words or sections to see different explanations, create quiz-questions for self-study, copy helpful explanations to their notes, and follow citations to find the original context of the AI-generated explanation.

Prepared by Wanda Rockthunder, an instructor at SIIT and from the Muskowekwan First Nation, and with contributions from Shelley Price, an associate professor at Acadia University and an Inuk woman of mixed ancestry born in NunatuKavut, Labrador, is once again featured in Steen. The case follows the fictional company Human Initiatives as it engages with the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s Calls to Action and begins the process of Indigenizing its workplace.
